Why wear the Miraculous Medal?

Why wear the Miraculous Medal?

“Have a medal struck based on this design.
Those who wear it with faith will receive great graces.”
— The Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Labouré

A medal inspired by an apparition

The Miraculous Medal traces its origins to 1830, in Paris, on Rue du Bac.
A young novice, Saint Catherine Labouré, received an apparition of the Virgin Mary there.

In this vision, Mary asks her to have a medal struck, bearing a simple yet profound promise: graces will be granted to those who wear it with faith.

Very quickly, the testimonies began to pour in: healings, conversions, and unexpected protection. The people of Paris then spontaneously began to call it the Miraculous Medal.

A theology engraved in metal

Wearing the Miraculous Medal is not simply wearing a piece of jewelry.
It is wearing a symbol of faith.

Every detail has a meaning:

  • Maria, standing with her hands outstretched: she showers the world with grace

  • The rays: a symbol of gifts received and given

  • On the reverse side of the medal, the letter "M" surmounted by a cross: the inseparable union of Mary and Christ

  • The two hearts: that of Jesus and that of Mary, united in love and suffering

  • The Twelve Stars: The Church, Universal and Living

It is a true catechesis and a presence.

Why wear it today?

In a world saturated with external symbols, logos, and brands, the Miraculous Medal offers the opposite: a visible, universal, and discreet inner life.

People wear it for various reasons:

  • To entrust oneself to the protection of the Virgin Mary

  • Maintaining a spiritual presence in daily life

  • Anchoring one's faith in a simple, concrete act

  • Remember that grace is at work, often invisibly

It guides your decisions, your inner struggles, and your moments of uncertainty.
It does not replace faith; it supports it.

A gem, but above all a relationship

What touches me deeply about the Miraculous Medal is not its appearance. It is its universality and the connection it fosters.

A filial relationship. Trusting. Alive. Wearing this medal means accepting that we are not alone, but allowing a light—one that does not come from within—to enter our simplest daily lives.

A simplicity that stands the test of time

For nearly two centuries, it has been passed down, shared, and preserved.

To a little girl. To a friend. To oneself, sometimes, at a crucial moment.

Because, after all, the Miraculous Medal does not promise a life free of trials.
It promises something else: a faithful presence, right at the heart of these trials. It is an invitation to trust.

In all the colors of time

It is for all these reasons that I take such joy in decorating it with the colors of the seasons—with flowers, autumnal hues, or the crisp whiteness of snow. Available in medal, great mini sizes. I always go to pick it up at the shrine itself, which is an opportunity for a small pilgrimage to entrust my team and all my clients. It is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for expressing the love that God has for us and that He conveys to us... through His Mother 💙
