Why wear the Miraculous Medal?
Why wear the Miraculous Medal?

"Have a medal struck according to this model.
Those who wear it with confidence will receive great graces."
— The Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Labouré
A medal born from an apparition
The Miraculous Medal originated in 1830, in Paris, on Rue du Bac.
A young novice, Saint Catherine Labouré, received an apparition of the Virgin Mary there.
In this vision, Mary asked her to have a medal struck, bearing a simple and immense promise: graces would be granted to those who wore it with faith.
Very quickly, testimonies multiplied. Healings, conversions, unexpected protections. The people of Paris spontaneously nicknamed it: the Miraculous Medal.
A theology engraved in metal
Wearing the Miraculous Medal is not wearing a simple piece of jewelry.
It is wearing a condensed form of faith.
Every detail has meaning:
-
Mary, standing, hands open: she spreads graces over the world
-
The rays: symbol of gifts received and given
-
On the back of the medal, the "M" surmounted by the cross: the indissoluble union of Mary and Christ
-
The two hearts: that of Jesus and that of Mary, united in love and suffering
-
The twelve stars: the Church, universal and living
It is a true catechesis and a presence.
Why wear it today?
In a world saturated with external signs, logos, and brands, the Miraculous Medal offers the opposite: a visible, universal, and discreet interiority.
It is worn for several reasons:
-
To entrust oneself to the protection of the Virgin Mary
-
To maintain a spiritual presence in daily life
-
To anchor one's faith in a simple and concrete gesture
-
To remember that grace acts, often invisibly
It accompanies decisions, inner struggles, moments of uncertainty.
It does not replace faith, it supports it.
A jewel, but above all a relationship
What profoundly touches me about the Miraculous Medal is not its aesthetics. It is its universality and the relationship it induces.
A filial relationship. Entrusted. Living. To wear this medal is to accept not being alone but to let a light that does not come from oneself enter into the simplest daily life.
A simplicity that transcends time
For nearly two centuries, it has been passed on, given, and kept.
To a child. To a friend. To oneself, sometimes, at a pivotal moment.
Because, ultimately, the Miraculous Medal does not promise a life without trials.
It promises something else: a faithful presence, at the very heart of these trials. It is an invitation to trust.
In all the colors of time
It is for all these reasons that I take so much joy in dressing it in the colors of the seasons, with flowers, autumn shades, or the clarity of snow. In medal size, large or mini. I always pick it up directly from the sanctuary, which is an opportunity for a small pilgrimage to entrust my team and all my clients. It is an inexhaustible source of inspiration to express the love that God has for us and that He transmits to us... through His mother 💙
