Why wear the Miraculous Medal?

Why wear the Miraculous Medal?

"Have a medal struck in this design.
Those who wear it with trust will receive great graces."
— Our Lady to Sainte Catherine Labouré

A medal born from an apparition

The Miraculous Medal originated in 1830 in Paris, on Rue du Bac.
A young novice,Sainte Catherine Labouréreceived an apparition of Our Lady there.

In this vision, Our Lady asks her to have a medal struck, bearing a simple yet immense promise: graces will be granted to those who wear it with faith.

Very quickly, testimonies multiplied. Healings, conversions, unexpected protections. The people of Paris then spontaneously nicknamed it: the Miraculous Medal.

A theology etched into metal

Wearing the Miraculous Medal is not just wearing a simple piece of jewelry.
It is wearing a distillation of faith.

Every detail has meaning:

  • Our Lady, standing, hands outstretched: she pours out graces upon the world

  • The rays: a symbol of gifts received and given

  • On the back of the medal, the 'M' topped with a cross: the inseparable union of Mary and Christ

  • The two hearts: that of Jesus and that of Mary, united in love and suffering

  • The twelve stars: the Church, universal and living

It is a true catechism and a presence.

Why wear it today?

In a world saturated with external signs, logos, and brands, the Miraculous Medal offers the opposite: a visible, universal, and discreet interiority.

People wear it for several reasons:

  • To entrust oneself to the protection of Our Lady

  • To keep a spiritual presence in daily life

  • To anchor one's faith in a simple, tangible gesture

  • To remember that grace acts, often invisibly

It accompanies decisions, inner struggles, and moments of uncertainty.
It does not replace faith; it supports it.

A piece of jewelry, but above all a relationship

What deeply touches me about the Miraculous Medal is not its aesthetics. It is its universality, and the relationship it inspires.

A filial relationship. Trusting. Living. Wearing this medal means accepting not to be alone, but to let into the simplest daily life a light that does not come from oneself.

A simplicity that transcends time

For nearly two centuries, it has been passed down, given, and kept.

To a child. To a friend. To oneself, sometimes, during a pivotal moment.

Because deep down, the Miraculous Medal does not promise a life without trials.
It promises something else: a faithful presence, right at the heart of these trials. It is an invitation to trust.

In all the colors of time

For all these reasons, I take so much joy in dressing it in the colors of the seasons, with flowers, autumnal tones, or the clarity of snow. In medal size, large, or mini. I always seek it out at the sanctuary, which even becomes an opportunity for a small pilgrimage to entrust my team and all my clients to her. It is an endless source of inspiration for sharing the love that God bears for us and passes on to us... through his Mother 💙
