A few years ago, I created a great bronze great in the church of Yvetot, called “The Empty Tomb.” Peter and John are running to the tomb. St. John’s hand touches the void left by the rolled-away stone. In my sculpture, this opening is nothing but light. It touches both absence and infinity at the same time. He sees. And he believes. A dazzling revelation.
It is the same idea in this piece of jewelry: a cross surrounded by sparkling gold and copper, and at the center, an empty silver cross. Empty? NO. Infinitely full of the Hope that the Resurrection gives to the world. Infinitely full of a love that will never cease. Here is the whole mystery of God summed up: invisible and absolutely present.
