How glass icons were born

The idea for the glass icons came to me in a village square in Moselle đź’ˇ
I had already tried to make stained glass windows for my own studio, but even making them myself was terribly expensive. The subject swirled around in my mind. One day, I was coming out of an appointment for giant thermoformed glass bays. 6 meters high. Giants. Perhaps it was the contrast between these inaccessible pieces and my desire for glass to be accessible that put me on the right track. In this square, in front of a fountain I believe, the word "glass icon" flashed through my mind ⚡️et and I literally smacked myself on the forehead with a real sense of eureka!
Everything I knew about the art of stained glass could, and should, be brought into our homes to illuminate them from within. We had to get rid of costly structures around the perimeter, draw inspiration from Orthodox icons for their power of presence and interiority, work the glass into the ideal format for a prayer corner, a study or a library. And add the magic of gold.
This is how my glass icons were born. Incredibly complex to create, yet at the same time simple to live with, while adding depth to the place we inhabit.
